Lil Nas X took the world by storm in 2019 with the release of his debut single, ‘Old Town Road’. He hasn’t slowed down since, consistently turning all eyes towards him with every new project he releases; and for good reason too. Every new release seems to come with new publicity stunts or controversy. Whether that be his “Satan Shoes” with real human blood, lap-dancing Satan in his music video for ‘MONTERO’, or the countless other stunts that seem to really bother certain people. Now, it’s his latest track with Jack Harlow ‘INDUSTRY BABY’.
Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow team up for the first time
When listening to ‘INDUSTRY BABY’ without the visuals to go along with it, it sounds completely innocent. The track starts off with some horns building up, and then the bass drops and Lil Nas X makes his intro. The horns and heavy bass stick around throughout, creating a grand sound. About two minutes in, Jack Harlow lays down his verse with his signature confident, slightly braggadocious bars.
But the song is just the start of it. The video for ‘INDUSTRY BABY’ isn’t totally out of the wack if you’re familiar with Lil Nas’ past work, but those aforementioned certain people are definitely livid right now.

Staying on theme with the current state of his life (being in the middle of a court case), the music video is set inside of a prison. Directed by Christian Breslauer, the video follows a loose theme vaguely similar to the film, “The Shawshank Redemption.” It’s a little more provocative by comparison however.
The cast is dressed in hot pink inmate uniforms
Lil Nas X is dressed, well half dressed, in a hot pink inmate uniform. He’s joined with a slew of inmates following the same dress code. That is, until they aren’t wearing anything at all. 30 seconds in comes the part that the whole internet is buzzing over- about 15 seconds of Lil Nas X and eight other inmates shaking their asses literally butt naked. But don’t worry, the junk is completely blurred, so those salty critics can’t file a realistic complaint anyway.
There’s even an appearance from the famous lap-dancing Satan scene from ‘MONTERO’ as one of the guards watches it on his phone.
Lil Nas X joins forces with The Bail Project
The chaotic video comes with much more than just entertainment and publicity, though. As part of this release, Lil Nas X joins forces with The Bail Project, a nonprofit organization on a mission to end cash bail. Cash bails are the main driving force of mass incarceration and structural racism in the US legal system.
Through the “Bail X Fund” Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow have made donations and encourage fans and other artists to get involved too. Looking at the YouTube video where you can donate directly, they have already raised over $35k.
“It’s personal. I know the pain that incarceration brings to a family. And I know the disproportionate impact that cash bail has on Black Americans and the LGBTQ community. Let’s bring people home & let’s fight for freedom and equality.”
