Hot Music Friday Featuring Doja Cat, Quavo, Vic Mensa and More

Let’s keep the ball rolling and give September a warm welcome with another edition of Hot Music Friday. Summer’s in it’s final stretch, but that doesn’t mean it’s quite over yet — the music dropping right now is a testament to that.

This time around, we got fresh chops from Doja Cat, Quavo, Vic Mensa and more, so don’t waste any more time!

Hot Music Friday – September 1, 2023

“Demons” – Doja Cat

Doja Cat‘s on a mission to prove that she can spit and the 27-year-old star has only succeeded at it so far … tremendously. The latest single from her upcoming LP keeps with the spirit of colorful and provocative rap, so featuring it as the opening track this Hot Music Friday was a no brainer. If this doesn’t hype you up for her next record, god knows what will.

“Blue Eyes” – Vic Mensa

“I started writing it six–seven years ago, actually,” Vic Mensa said about his latest single. “I had gone and done ayahuasca for the first time and I heard a higher voice that told me, ‘I used to want blue eyes, that is the root of my pain,’ and I thought that was so heavy. “I knew I had to write a song, but it wasn’t until I left Ghana last year — my aunt, she had a wound on her face, and my father was telling me, ‘I asked her 10 years ago to stop bleaching her skin,’ and that broke my heart.”

Though his aunt passed away from skin cancer recently, he has kept her memory alive through his new song. Check it out:

“DIE TODAY” – EarthGang

Aside from being a great song, “DIE TODAY” also comes with a hilarious music video that features Denzel Curry presiding over EarthGang‘s hypothetical funeral. What would the world be like if the Dreamville duo suddenly passed away? Look no further because they themselves have offered an answer.

“Ho Chi Minh” – Bas

It won’t be Hot Music Friday without at least one bar-heavy track. Fortunately, we got several this week! Bas, to no one’s surprise, has come in strong with his latest single just like he did with the last. It’s comfortable knowing that we can rely on someone to always pull through, and he’s that guy.

“Denver” – Jack Harlow

By no means a new song, “Denver” was without question one of the standout cuts from Jack Harlow‘s last full-length album, Jackman. That is precisely why fans were thrilled when the Louisiana native gave the track its very own visual parallel.

“11:11” – Quavo

Anything Migos related will always make it on Hot Music Friday — make no mistake, this isn’t a rule, but it’s just always been impossible to leave their work our on account of “it’s simply too lit.” And that is exactly what Quavo‘s new drop is. See for yourself!

Born Again – Danger Mouse & Jemini the Gifted One

Anything Danger Mouse touches turns to gold and his new record with Jemini the Gifted One is further proof of that. Having the legendary studio cook produce your album is a winning formula, so it shouldn’t surprise you when this album blows you away.

Walter Dwight – Count Bass D

This is the type of high we always aspire to close out Hot Music Friday on. Count Bass D‘s reputation precedes him, but even that is no match for just how remarkable this new album is. The only appropriate pitch for this project is: drop what you’re doing and listen to it … right now.
