Hot Music Friday June 16

Hot Music Friday Featuring Tyga, Grimes, McKinley Dixon and More

We’re already halfway through June and it’s time to celebrate another cycle with Hot Music Friday. Your weekly dose of music this time around features some great hip-hop, traditional and non-traditional, along with sides of R&B, rock, pop and electronica.

This weekend, we’re excited to bring you some bangers by Tyga, YG and Slayyyter, among others, so scroll on!

Hot Music Friday – June 16, 2023

“West Coast Weekend” – Tyga, YG & Blxst

The West Coast remains one of the most compelling themes in hip-hop. If music centered on some California Love isn’t enough, try seasoning it with SoCal sweethearts TygaYG and Blxst. Could there be a better way to open Hot Music Friday?

“Liquor Store in the Sky” – BJ the Chicago Kid (feat. Freddie Gibbs)

So smooth and silky, it’s songs like these that remind us why it’s so amazing to exist in the same world as hip-hop. BJ the Chicago Kid and Freddie Gibbs have a solid history of never letting fans down, so there’s no way they were gonna start now.

“Out of Time” – Slayyyter

You can always rely on Slayyyter to keep things interesting. Somehow, she always finds a way to make music you can dance or just bop your head to, and “Out of Time” is another such example. Call it what you want, but it’s undoubtedly fun and, by default, eligible for Hot Music Friday.

“Pour Your Heart Out” – RL Grime (feat. 070 Shake)

A crossover between RL Grime and 070 Shake is destined to produce music that belongs in space. Listen to it and you’ll find yourself floating among the stars, and that alone deserves a round of applause. After all, being transported to a different place and state of mind is the whole point of art, isn’t it?

“Welcome to the Opera” – Anyma & Grimes

The future is in the present, and Anyma has already proven that to us time and time again. “Welcome to the Opera,” however, isn’t to be taken for granted because it pairs two of the most ground-breaking and creative artists in the music industry today. This one’s a treat and we want to be sure to shout it out on Hot Music Friday.

Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? – McKinley Dixon

The name of this record pretty much sums it up. Few things in life are as ecstatic as the fusion of hip-hop and jazz, and McKinley Dixon has it down to a science. This one deserves all the love so be sure to give it some of yours.

Anger Management – Bloody Civilian

Sounds can have personality too, and Bloody Civilian’s entire brand is a testament to this. Of course, her personality seeps into the music too, but there’s something truly spectacular about the instrumentals she chooses to lay her vocals over. This Hot Music Friday, we want to show our appreciation for this stellar record and the music coming out of Nigeria.

DIAMONDS & FREAKS – BLK ODYSSY

There’s no one quite like BLK ODYSSY. You can tell it’s him just by listening, but what truly makes him special is that he is an exceptionally skilled songwriter. Sure, he has skill, but it’s his taste that makes the product so incredible.

Council Skies – Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

The grumpy Britpop legend is back with another solo record and it’s a delight to watch him go back to his rock and roll roots. After a underwhelmingly experimental album in 2017, Noel Gallagher is back to making the type of music that helped his former band, Oasis, explode in the 90s. Even today, that sounds just doesn’t feel old.
