The Lunch Table Podcast Talks 2018 Hip-Hop Grammy Nominations

The 2019 Grammy’s are just around the corner. The nominations for February’s annual legendary event have been released and the fans are speaking up! On our Lunch Table Podcast this past week, Caj Encee and I discussed the artists nominated for this year’s hip-hop Grammy Awards.

It’s been an incredible year for hip-hop music as a whole. This has made it difficult to fully choose the “best” of anything. Both of us have varying opinions on winners for the different categories but seemed to land more so around Kendrick Lamar and Drake towards the top of their categories.

Having Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap mentioned on the Grammy list is truly a win for the culture itself. It may have been released early in 2018, but taking a look at the data shows ‘This is America’ stands the best chance at winning both Record and Song of the Year.”

Neither of us was sure of the differences between song and record of the year but per the Grammy’s website, the differences are as follows:

“The Record Of The Year category recognizes the artist’s performance as well as the overall contributions of the producer(s), recording engineer(s) and/or mixer(s) if other than the artist.

The Song Of The Year category recognizes the songwriter(s).”
