Griff Cowan is the kind of guy that needs a creative outlet such as music or art or else he’d probably shrivel up and die. Thankfully, he’s been putting in an incomparable hustle for the last few years. Showcasing his unique brand of classic MC work which he combines with his love for abstract painting. More than nine years of his life has been spent honing in on his skills behind the mic. It started as many others have—in their bedroom.
Griff spent years locked away perfecting his craft like a hip-hop monk. He is just now starting to let the world know what he’s all about. Rapping is like breathing to this man. He went ahead and made his own independent record label to dive even deeper into the game.
9th Realm Records operates out of his home base that contains a full studio. A stockpile of his paintings is stored in the warehouse out back. The unique blend of his braggadocious flow over nuanced boom-bap beats and the injection of powerful imagistic paintings makes for an oddly complementary pairing.
Having only a few years worth of material online, Griff has been able to amass ample streams on Soundcloud and beyond. Musically, he often combines the lovable yet classic lo-fi style of beats with a west coast flavor that makes for a solid bounce in each of his beat selections.
Operating out of Huntington Beach, he’s at no loss for the opportunity to spread his infectious vibes. In his video for “G Pops Bumped The Jazz” you find him flowing over a clean sample accompanied by one of his artistic creations. Scope the video below and soak in the Los Angeles sunshine.

Within the last year, Griff has put out a handful of singles on Soundcloud, with a few making it to Spotify and Apple Music. He’s already got a captivating flow and a home base for cranking out bangers.
The fact that he can bust out eye-grabbing abstract artistic renderings too, man. It’s only a matter of time before Griff Cowan catches a serious buzz.
