Seattle’s somber son is back on his solo grind with “I’ll Be Better” featuring JAGA. The last time we heard Grieves, he was providing the beats for new three-piece sensation Greater Than which consists of himself, Grynch, and Fearce Vill. The Rhymesayers representative has returned to his signature style, moody and dark hip-hop that verges on bloody poetry and honest storytelling.
The “I’ll Be Better” visual features stunning colors and ambiguous artistic visions of exotic birds and insane asylums. Director Justin Frick leads us on a journey with Grieves to move past heartache left from the fizzle of former flames. Grieves is always at his best when he’s riding his muse like a newly risen fiery beast from the remains of his failures and lessons learned.
Grieves articulates sadness and grief in a way that helps people over their own issues and obstacles. Whether it be relationships, addiction or any of the other seemingly unmovable mountains in our life, Grieves helps break it down with descriptive verses and haunting hooks about his own demons and his battles to overcome them.
