Stoner characters have been flattered and embarrassed in the media for decades. Despite years of propaganda aimed at diminishing stoner reputations, there’s been plenty of warm-hearted fictional stoners that have graced pop culture lexicon. Cheech, Chong, Towelie, Smokey, Spicoli, Saul from Pineapple Express, and the entire cast of That ’70s Show are all known by different generations of cannabis users. These characters may be fictitious, but their love of the ganja spread to real-life audiences everywhere. This is a unique type of cross-promotion that was happening under everyone’s collective noses. Tj Walker wants to bring this style of cannabis and media cross-promotion to the next level for his cannabis-infused sci-fi anthology series Green Fiction.
Walker’s initial idea for Green Fiction started in the first days of Washington’s recreational cannabis dispensary. Seeing shelves filled with different brands and he couldn’t help but think, “What if a movie like Friday or Pineapple Express had the opportunity to use cannabis as product placement?”
Unique Branding Opportunity
This is the exact opportunity that Walker is extending to any Washington-based cannabis who’s interested. Each episode of Green Fiction will be named after its featured cannabis strain. For example, episode one is titled “Supreme.” Throughout the episode, people who smoke Supreme are imbued with superpowers that they use for great and nefarious deeds. This show will explore cannabis use in a sci-fi superhero setting, giving cannabis brands the chance to showcase their products in a completely new light.
What if a local cannabis farmer got to grow the Pineapple Express weed that Saul and Dale smoked in the movie? That movie single handily launched that strain into the stratosphere and it would be cool to connect local growers to exposure like that.
We all know cannabis is medicinal and an important economic boost to our country, but it’s also a fun culture to be a part of. Cannabis is synonymously associated with enhanced creativity and this is without a doubt a uniquely creative endeavor being attempted within cannabis media.
