New Jersey’s Grapefruit Sound Lab has blessed us with an upbeat rendition of Gina Volpe’s track “Shine.” The song was originally released off Volpe’s debut solo album, Different Animal, back in 2017.
In the original, the melody sits low as Volpe’s strong vocals push the track forward. Grapefruit Lab has taken a much different approach. The intro comes in with a funky 80’s beat echoing similar nuances in Volpe’s version.
Both Grapefruit Sound Lab and Gine Volpe come from musical backgrounds rooted in New York. Each artist has found their own unique path to success leading up to the iconic conjunction we see in “Shine (Red House Mix.)”
Gina Volpe
Volpe has released over a dozen albums and singles since the beginning of her career. She has stared in two bands before taking flight on a solo career and has been called everything from sloppy, to complex, to explosively modern.
Being nothing short of a dynamic, universal artist is an understatement to Volpe. Her style ranges from ballads to grunge making every release a surprise.
Grapefruit Sound Lab found inspiration in 1980’s and 90’s club music. This infectious style found its way into Grapefruit’s bloodstream giving us this inherently familiar yet modern sound. Even though he’s still a budding artist, his eccentric style holds an indefinite amount of potential.
Showing love to artists you wouldn’t normally listen to or haven’t heard of yet is a great way to expand your musical palate. Whether up-and-coming DJ’s or matured producers, the creative process is always worth a spin to new ears. Listen to the track below and open your mind to a new mellow club hit.
