Graffiti Royale is one of the most exciting acts coming out of New York right now. The trio of Dan Vasquez, AG and Creature In The Woods have been steadily churning out quality music since they connected. The newest visual to their single titled “Sweet Like Wine” is no exception and continues their streak of amazing releases.
The Timothy Barker Jr. directed video starts with an image of lead vocalist Dan Vasquez in a small boat. As Dan sits in the boat he begins singing his lyrics in a very calm, monotone type of flow. Dan maintains this style throughout the entirety of the track. From there the video goes back and forth between the scene in the boat and Dan being accompanied by his bandmates in a vibrantly lit room or space of sorts.
The lyrics themselves focus on Dan Vasquez going through some sort of heartbreak and using alcohol to ease the pain. While on his alcoholic journey the lines between reality and the so-called perception of peace begin to blend into one. The song ends with no resolution as Vasquez goes back to drowning his feelings head first.
If “Sweet Like Wine” is any indication of where this band is going to continue to go, then I am all for it. This new record comes on the heels of another recent success in the form of “Feel The Fire”. “Feel The Fire” was a more of an upbeat track directed by Mustafa Mahdi.
