Gilton East is a Swiss army knife of talent hailing from the greater Federal Way Washington area. Proficient in a variety of skills including photography, film, directing, and editing. He initially committed to become a dancer/ choreographer until 2010 when he converted from being a full time dancer, to focusing on his journey as a musician.
One of his biggest hits, “Welfare,” is a personable track where Gilton speaks on his days growing up as an “independent ’90s baby grown off that welfare” and eating ramen noodles with the eggs in them. He’s not afraid to take on a challenge either which he shows in his remixes. Remixing the likes of megastars Dreamville and Cardi B, giving his own little twist on their work and showing he can keep up with the best.
“Mmm Huh” is Gilton East’s newest release and is off his upcoming EP Misery Loves Company. Gilton explains his need for space and relief of stress in this crazy world we’re living in. He emotes that longing feeling of wanting success and having someone with you that understands the struggle. Someone who knows how it feels and can even help you along your journey. Which, in the end, is something we can all understand.
In his music video, you simply see Gilton whipping around town doing his thing. A few different cuts and edits keep this simple video fresh and that’s actually part of the reason I like this video — it’s clean, to the point, and does a great job of delivering a vision that completely encompasses the “in search of” vibe.
