[Exclusive Interview] Lowdoses “Stancyzk”
To kick off this electronic Spotify playlist mashup, we bring you both insight and interview with experimental bass artist Lowdoses. Releasing through label Soulfulbynature, Lowdoses showcases the Stancyzk EP. With 3 tracks, the project is a combination of deep and hypnotic beats, pulsating basslines, and minimalist approach to composition. You know we had to add this to our electronic Spotify playlist.
Read below in an exclusive interview what Lowdoses had to say about all the elements that made up the producers latest project.
Tell me about your latest EP Stancyzk. What was the inspiration behind the project?
“Stanczyk is another chapter in my love for UK Dubstep. Although it’s not authentic in nature, it’s my take along with some experimental elements. I don’t ever intend to make music that’s true to source. But I get inspired by it and massively respect those who paved the sound. Stanczyk is also a step in the right direction for me sonically. Dark and gritty has always been the vibe.”
There are 3 songs, could you describe each a little bit? This could also be about the process or the experience while making them.
“The title track was one I had as a loop for so long and knew it had potential. I tried my hardest to make it work, I knew the lead was so weird sounding but had flow with the open hat and shit.”
“Villain arc was a call back to my hip-hop production with the sample chops trying to make it evolve to a heavy bass sound, getting more evil as it goes on.”
“Rosegoldpeach is my favorite, I made it in a day on a breaks tip. I just loved how wild and crazy all the drums sound together, but it still had a groove. I stacked like two 808s and they fight for attention; I liked how unnatural it sounded.”
After speaking in depth about his relationship with music and this project, Lowdoses expressed his deep gratitude for all the love he’s received on his latest release. “I love and appreciate all the support I get on this release! I also have a show I started called “Moderation Radio” on YouTube and SoundCloud . It’s music I love, with no genre.”
This doesn’t conclude the entire interview. Lowdoses will have his very own story coming soon which goes more in depth about his background with music production, visual elements of his latest release, and future releases. The first track on the EP “Killa”, is one of those songs that will have you in a trance like state for as long as you welcome it (I have literally had the song on repeat since April 19th). Hamdi brings the heat with “Killa,” blending menacing synths, booming 808s, and ominous vocal samples to create a gritty and intense listening experience.
As you listen to the track it sounds so seamless you might think about how “simple” it sounds. All the while still understanding that it at all in fact is not simple. The production on “Killa” is sharp and punchy, featuring crisp percussion, distorted basslines, and atmospheric textures that add depth and dimension to the track. What breaks Hamdi away from most UKG and Dubstep producers is how seamless he makes each track sound while yet producing the songs with intricate and unique sound design.
