Eighty4 Fly is one of the elites in the Northwest and one of our best shots at mainstream attention to the Northwest. If you’re not familiar with his music it is an electric fusion of hip-hop and good commercial music that is currently along the same lines as the main stream. While Seattle remains a big part of Eighty4’s music, his sound is unlike anything else in the Northwest. Not to be confused with some dubstep/techno sounding music, Eighty4 Fly’s electric backdrops keep the hip-hop backbone. On August 25th Eighty4 Fly and the Flyworld camp plan on dropping his newest release COLORS for free download on their website. Respect My Region was blessed with the chances to get this exclusive interview for you guys.
1. What is Colors? What does it mean to Eighty4 Fly and the back story behind the concept and music?
Its a gift actually some people have where they close their eyes and they can actually see music via COLORS so I take it since every mood has a color and every song has a mood every song has a color too and from that you get COLORS.
2. What are your hopes and goals for the this project?
At the least us at #FlyWorld would like to own a small country after the release of COLORS…
3. How did you approach this project differently musically and marketing wise?
Musically I just didn’t stop growing so its really just a different approach because I’ve changed musically and taste wise also … Marketing I worked harder…
4. I have heard a few of the singles off the tape and the one really sticks out to me is Kush High. This track not only has a real commercial feel but has a great vibe. We got a video coming to this?
Yes me and Jon Augustavo are coming together with a video for that one for sure one of my favorite if not my favorite off the project for sure.
4.5 How many more videos can we anticipate off this project?
We are probably going to stop ourselves at 2 on this one… Kush High & Cool Kids (Track name drop).
5. I know when we last spoke in Spokane during Hoopfest you mentioned touring and pushing this project on a larger scale than before…can we catch you live anywhere soon?
We are putting together a small club tour for COLORS Release Parties and planning a full COLORS Release show sometime in mid September so be on the look out for that for sure…!!
6. It seems a lot of artists either make that move to LA when they start buzzing or waiting for their career to really develop into a more “national” act and then making the move. Do you plan on residing in the Northwest for a while or making that trek down the west coast closer to the city of angels?
Nah, I’m in seattle regardless of the situation Seattle keeps me in Seattle the people the scene the everything.
7. Who in the Northwest do you vouch for right now? And anyone you see attaining some commercial/national success?
Macklemore, J Pinder, Nacho Picasso those guys are making really good moves right now and make good music.
84. What’s the next move for Eighty4 Fly and how can Colors help you get there?
Next project coming very soon and COLORS will represent step one
