South Central, Los Angeles is legendary for so many different reasons. Hip-Hop has long been a staple of this Los Angeles community. Some of the greatest rappers and producers in west coast history have emerged from South Central. Drakeo The Ruler, a relative newcomer is the newest in a long line of L.A. Hip-Hop artists to make his mark on the city’s landscape.
In the last three years, Drakeo has built up an impressive following. The momentum kept going even while serving most of last year behind bars. Fresh out and ready to pick up where he left off, Drakeo The Ruler quickly dropped his most complete project to date, Cold Devil.
The 16 track project came out in December and immediately put Drakeo’s name back in the conversation for next up out of Los Angeles. He made this album for the streets.
Throughout the project, he shows off a raspy flow that seems almost effortless over the bass heavy west coast production. Almost every track on the project has the ability to be a hood anthem from start to finish. Some of the standouts on the project are, ‘Big Banc Uchies’, ‘Flu Flamming’ and ‘Bullet Proof’, with the two former getting visual treatment.
Prior to getting locked up, Drakeo The Ruler was working with platinum producer DJ Mustard. He was even said to have been signed to the west coast DJ’s label for a short time. The two had collaborated before in 2015 on Mustard’s track, ‘Mr. Get Dough’ which also featured RJ and Seattle’s own, Choice.
While locked up during most of 2017, Drakeo The Ruler still managed to keep himself active on social media. Apparently, there was a smuggled phone which allowed the South Central rapper to maintain a presence online from behind bars. This would allow Drakeo to promote himself leading up to the release of, Cold Devil, shortly after being freed from jail.
We’ve already gotten three videos from him in the first quarter of 2018. One of those is the standout album cut, ‘Flu Flamming’ off of the, Cold Devil, LP. With a clean slate and building buzz including national media coverage Drake The Ruler is set to be the next big thing coming out of Southern California.
