Camp Flog Gnaw is Tyler the Creator’s yearly festival and carnival hosted in Los Angeles with big headliners and rising stars. This year it had Solange, YG, Brockhampton, and Tyler the Creator as headliners. There was also a mystery guest scheduled to perform. Fans thought it may be Frank Ocean and lots of fans bought tickets purely because of that.
Given the close relationship between Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean, it isn’t completely unreasonable for fans to create that assumption. However, it was all just rumors and theories that fans were creating. So when the surprise guest at Camp Flog Gnaw turned out to be Drake, a number of fans were greatly disappointed and began booing him. He left the stage in a completely professional manner. Drizzy came back the next day on Instagram with the announcement that he’s signed a 10-year residency at the festival. Here’s a full video of his set.
Drake has been a major contributor to hip-hop for nearly two decades. So it’s absurd to see such negative crowd reactions. Musicians such as J.I.D., Finneas and more came forth and expressed their surprise. Tyler the Creator himself was greatly embarrassed and annoyed as well. However, it’s worth noting that it wasn’t the entire crowd booing Drake and just a few from the crowd. Although those bad apples still spoiled the whole show. Tyler went on a Twitter rant shortly afterward and even changed his bio momentarily to reflect how he felt.
Tyler, The Creator Speaks Up On Twitter
Now, people are keeping it light and writing potential verses for the Camp Flog Gnaw diss track. Then the thread continues on with lots of talent and bars.
Let us know what you think! Is it right for Drake to cut his set short due to the disrespect? Or should he have kept on going for the fans and for professionalism? Was it a boss move for him to sign the 10-year residency agreement? Or should he have just let this one slide?
