In 2011, the inaugural issue of DOPE Magazine was handed out to HEMPFEST attendees with the slogan “FREE DOPE.” What began that day led to the growth of a media empire whose ethos is Defending Our Plant Everywhere.
Co-founder Dave Tran reminisces on the festival by saying, “The first DOPE Magazine was handed out at HEMPFEST almost eight years ago. I owe a lot to HEMPFEST for shaping the way I looked at cannabis and celebrate cannabis, and it’s an honor to throw one of our largest events at HEMPFEST… We are very excited to be a part of it.”
The DOPE Cup is well respected for its transparent and technical judging process. DOPE Magazine’s co-founder and the chief creative officer will bring his eye for detail to create a truly unique experience for both HEMPFEST and DOPE Cup attendees.
The DOPE Cup, produced by DOPE Magazine, continues to elevate its name through a highly transparent and technical judging process. “DOPE works exclusively with the Trichome Institute as its official judges to bring their expertise and science-based judging platform to the DOPE Cup,” said James Zachodni, co-founder of DOPE Magazine.
This year’s DOPE Cup, dubbed DOPE Land, will be nestled within the grounds of HEMPFEST. Over 100,000 attendees are expected at the event.

DOPE Land will be open to the public during the entirety of HEMPFEST weekend. It will include entertainment along with the DOPE Cup awards ceremony on Saturday evening.
