Reggae rock, gritty punk, and ska come together in Dirty Heads‘ latest track, ‘Rage’, with the help of Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Aimee Interrupter of The Interrupters. The track was released on Friday July 16th as part of their The Best of Dirty Heads album. Accompanying the release is a simple yet expressive music video starring the three- Dirty Heads, Travis Barker, and Aimee Interrupter.
Overall, the song holds Dirty Heads’ typical uplifting, alternative reggae sound but with an added “rage” to it. Travis Barker infuses some punk inspired drums and production into the mix, while Aimee Interrupter assists with her powerful vocals. The back-and-forth vocals from Dirty Heads and Aimee Interrupter create a sort-of conversation, one that’s vulnerable but passionate.

‘Rage’ by Dirty Heads, Travis Barker, and Aimee Interrupter is out now
‘Rage’ is definitely more on the uplifting and lighter sound of punk instrumentally, but the lyrics exhibit punk all the way. The collaborators express possible past events from earlier in life that is affecting the rage they feel now, or have once felt. With lyrics like, “I still got rage inside / Since I’ve been 809 / My dad, he went to the store / And didn’t come back no more / I still got rage / But that’s okay.”
The accompanying video matches the punk lyrics, with all of the artists expressing their pent up rage through a cinematic performance. The visuals are decorated in a vivid, punk-like feel. The set is in a simple confined space crowded with glass walls and mirrors, though they still find a way to express their rage artistically.
