A Verzuz battle between Diddy and Jermaine Dupri has been in demand for a while now. The fantasy will finally materialize as a date and venue for the battle have been confirmed!
As per a video posted on Busta Rhymes’ Instagram yesterday, Diddy states that he and Dupri will be going toe-to-toe at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on September 8. Both artists will bring this battle to fruition almost a year after first agreeing to it this past August.
Diddy Challenges Jermaine Dupri
During an Instagram Live session, Diddy openly challenged Dupri: “JD, if you want that smoke, you can get that smoke anytime.”
In response, Dupri said he was willing to set up the event in his hometown of Atlanta. However, the two decided that there would be no drama because they were more interested in showcasing the history of Bad Boy Records and So So Def Recordings.
“Since we ain’t fucking with Verzuz no more ’cause they fucking around with our boys, we don’t need to be going against each other,” Diddy said. “Let’s come together and do that Bad Boy, So So Def in Atlanta. It ain’t no Verzuz, it’s just hit for hit.”
Verzuz Lawsuit Against Triller
The above comment refers to Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, the co-founders of Verzuz, filing a $28 million lawsuit against Triller. The video-sharing service allegedly failed to pay them the amount that was agreed upon for purchasing Verzuz in January 2021.
It seems like he has since come around. Whereas Verzuz has yet to formally confirm plans of hosting and Diddy and Dupri, it sounds like the event is already set to take place.
“We’re gon’ have you out the rafters flying out the sky,” Diddy said to Busta in the video posted to the latter’s social media.
Dupri initially proposed a Verzuz battle against Diddy in September 2021, which Diddy declined by citing Dr. Dre as his only worthy challenger: “Your arms too short to box with God.”
After a series of playfully competitive exchanges on social media, the pair will finally put their respective catalogs to the test this Autumn. After hearing it from Diddy firsthand, we just need confirmation from Swizz Beats and Timbaland.
