2015 & 2016 have been huge years for one of my favorite up and coming Northwest groups, Decent at Best. They finally released their first major EP ‘Retroactive Stimulation‘ and I believe it is one of the hottest projects I’ve heard since I first started writing about music in 2013.
When Decent at Best first sent over a link to this EP, I was beyond excited. I crave soulful electronic music and after listening to this project through and through, I truly believe these guys have potential to blow up. Having listened to electronic artists like Griz, Gramatik, Odesza, and The Floozies for a few years now, I’ve become a huge fan of artists with a similar funk-hop-soul type of artistry.
Decent at Best did amazing work on ‘Retroactive Stimulation’ and each of the six songs managed to deliver a unique set of funky sounds, ambient vibes, soulful choruses, and the perfect amount of ‘catchiness’ that encourages listeners to jam each creation on repeat.
If you follow the music I share here on RMR, you might have heard the second track, ‘Sideways‘, featured on July’s These Songs Slap list. Showcased as my favorite track, ‘Sideways’, pushes Decent At Best up into my top 5 Northwest producers and helps every other song on this ‘Retroactive Stimulation’ EP become that much more deserving of a listen and share. Because who doesn’t like fire tunes?
