Harlem rapper Dave East, dropped his latest project “Paranoia 2″ back in January, but he has just released the music video to his song “Prosper,” which documents the transitional struggle into a life of luxury spawning from his music career.
East has undeniably become one of the most prominent up-and-coming rappers in the game for the past few years. While he is brutally honest in many of his songs, in “Prosper” he is honest in a more refreshing sense, as he shares his thoughts on his career as a whole, and the struggles that come with fame. This can be shown in lyrics such as: “Get some fame behind your name and they come at you fast,” and “I love rap, but I don’t like the talk”.
The video to “Prosper” only amplifies East’s primary message, and gives a deeper background to the story he is sharing. While multiple clips are shown of his old city, eventually changing to where he is currently living, the visuals (like the song) are simple. It can be easy to overpower the message in a song by using visuals in its music video that are too eventful or distracting, and it is nice to see that East had that awareness for the final product of the”Prosper” video.
