37 Heartbreak Exclusive Interview
*Lightly edited for clarity
So tell me about yourself, what’s your background?
37 Heartbreak: “I was born in L.A., but I grew up in Anderson, Indiana. I moved there when I was in the second grade and I lived there until I was about 16. After that, I moved to Tennessee for a little bit, moved back to Indiana about 6 months later, and then came back to L.A. Been here ever since.”
What artists have influenced your music the most?
37 Heartbreak: “I don’t know if any specific artists have influenced my music. It’s more like my life has been influencing me, the people around me, and stuff like that. It’s the day-to-day stuff that influences me.”
What inspired you to start making music?
37 Heartbreak: “My friends being around me. They were all music artists and told me that I had an image, then, music just became kind of a natural thing. I had always messed around with it. I had an app on my phone and I would record myself, but it was never anything serious. Then, some of my friends helped me take it to the next level.”
What sparked the beginning of your music career?
37 Heartbreak: “My friend Danny introduced me to this dude, Cy Fyre. Cy Fyre, then, introduced me to this dude named Jedi. They were like ‘Yo, we know this producer named Konrad and you guys should work with each other.’ Shortly after that, I met Konrad and I went to his house in East L.A. to record with him. That’s how I got all my songs into Cyberpunk and shit. It was from working with him. He has really great connections and was just always looking out for me. It was just a weird series of events that led up to everything.”
What was your experience being on the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack?
37 Heartbreak: “I was shocked and didn’t really expect it. I had a feeling that it was gonna happen, but I didn’t know. I found out the day before the release of the game because I was looking it up and I saw my name on there. They wouldn’t tell me anything about it because they didn’t want any leaks, so I was just kind of waiting with everyone else. The day the game was released was the first time I had heard those songs in a while.”
You and Konrad Oldmoney worked on a couple of tracks together, including “Tatted on My Face” and “Only Son”, featured on Cyberpunk 2077. Your newest track, “Is You With Me”, was also produced by Konrad. Do you plan to continue working with him in the future?
37 Heartbreak: “Yeah, I would like to. He’s honestly the best producer to work with. He knows how to make me sound good, you know what I mean? I don’t have to do anything. Whenever I go record with him, I sit there and I freestyle for like 15 minutes straight. By the time I take my headphones off, the song sounds how it is whenever it’s released. It’s weird, I don’t even know what he does. It’s crazy, as soon as I take my headphones off, it’s like a full song and I just feel like I was repeating bullshit the whole time. Somehow, us making music together just works. I’ve tried doing it with other producers, but they don’t get it.”
What do you see for the future of your career?
37 Heartbreak: “Just to be the biggest. I don’t really know at this point and only time will tell. I just have to take it one step at a time. Gotta be thankful for the little things and not let the big things overwhelm me. “
Is there anything we should be keeping our eye out for?
37 Heartbreak: “Just more music. I’ll probably be filming music videos for the songs that were released in Cyberpunk pretty soon. I just have to wait, because the official soundtrack hasn’t been released on all platforms yet. For the time being, I’m just going to keep recording and sending music to Konrad, we’ll see where we go from there.”
