The state of Arizona legalized recreational cannabis for adult-use in 2020. The legislation alone makes for a good precedent for other states that are suspicious of legal weed. Businesses in AZ are already making great strides to accommodate it, even though it’s so new to the state. One such business is a historic Phoenix Four Star resort: the Clarendon Hotel and Spa.
Now under new ownership, the Clarendon is officially becoming the first hotel in Arizona to permit their guests to use cannabis. As of July 25th, 2021, visitors may book rooms designated cannabis-friendly through the phone line and websites linked below.

The Clarendon Hotel and Spa’s Cannabis-Friendly System
The Clarendon Hotel’s appeal to the cannabis community goes beyond a lifting of restrictions. Alongside a designated portion of the west wing for customers who apply through the form, there are also designated areas for smoking flower and vaping. Additionally, the Clarendon provides a transport service to drive its guests to local dispensaries.
The primary difference between regular rooms and cannabis rooms is an air scrubber that freshens the space and maintains cleanliness. Furthermore, a heavier duty recirculation unit deeply cleans the room and air between guests’ visits. Also, cannabis may be allowed, but cigarettes and tobacco are still highly prohibited outside of designated smoking areas.
“We are a cannabis friendly hotel and have a cannabis friendly event company that is elevating and educating the community about cannabis.”
Daron Brotherton, VP of Operations
“Arizona Cannabis Chef” Derek Upton will be cooking up infused meals for guests
To further accommodate cannabis-friendly guests, the Clarendon Hotel additionally serves infused dinners and food. In fact, the “Arizona Cannabis Chef” Derek Upton will be preparing these meals, served in-room. Upton is something of an infused food legend, appearing on Cooked with Cannabis on Netflix and Food Network’s Chopped 420. For the cannabis connoisseurs out there, there’s also Elevated Under the Stars: a six-course dinner of purely cannabis-infused foods.
