Throughout the recent years we have undoubtedly seen many genres blend in ways we’ve never heard before, or even expected to hear. One of these popular genre cocktails being rock rap. The first thing that likely comes to mind when you read “rock rap” is an average hip-hop track that Travis Barker hopped on.
Though that is the case, or a similar case, for many tracks in this hybrid genre, there are a select few artists that are taking it well beyond that. Forget Trippie Redd x Travis Barker-esque sounds and think more like $uicideboy$ x Travis Barker, aka punk rap, hardcore rap, trap metal, etc. etc. All that to say, City Morgue, an innovative rock rap duo, has released their latest project CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL.
CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL by City Morgue, ZillaKami, SosMula
The duo, consisting of ZillaKami and SosMula, busted out on the scene only a few years ago with their debut album CITY MORGUE: VOLUME 1: HELL OR HIGH WATER. Since their premiere, City Morgue has released new projects, year after year. Their consistency mixed with their infectiously intense, brassy sounds have granted them a strong cult following. Proof being in the numbers; in under three days, CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL has already amassed over 2 million streams on Spotify.
City Morgue’s 4th Full Length Project
The New York natives both have successful solo careers, but when the two come together as City Morgue, the limits of their uniquely crafted genre are seemingly endless. Their music screams “IDGAF,” from the sinister lyrics and flows, to the heavy beats and instrumentals.
City Morgue undoubtedly stays consistent throughout their discography. While some tracks are calmer than others, the majority of their music is loud and obnoxious, and in the best way possible. With CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL, they certainly focus on the latter. Essentially every track on this project brings a cohesive rowdy sound to the table.
CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL Doesn’t Slow Down
While some tracks like “EVERYTHING IS BROKEN” may be slightly slower than others, CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL doesn’t seem to take a break. “DEATH CULT INTRO” marks the start of the album, powering through and setting the tone for the rest of the project. The next track, “CABIN IN THE WOODS,” contains the only feature on the album- Jasiah. All three of their flows blend seamlessly, as if Jasiah was a third member of the group.
“MAKE IT DISAPPEAR” turns the intensity up a notch with its riotous beat. “FLAP LIPS” is another track on the same level, featuring an unrestrained muffled guitar carrying the bassy beat. Moreover, “MUTT B” undoubtedly features the grimiest intro with a riddly pound. Additionally, “XMAS BALLER” was another personal favorite.
ZillaKami and SosMula Continue to Mold Rock Rap
Though I could keep highlighting tracks, it’s simply best heard for yourself. Every song on CITY MORGUE VOLUME 3: BOTTOM OF THE BARREL hits, and really hard at that. City Morgue’s latest project is another solid addition to their discography as the duo continues to mold rock rap.
