RMR’s Official Recap of CannaCon’s Debut in Cleveland at Huntington Convention Center

The recent CannaCon Cleveland event, hosted at the Huntington Convention Center, provided a snapshot of the evolving cannabis industry in Ohio. While it may have been light on attendance compared to larger industry events, there was still plenty to appreciate and explore for those who made it out to the two-day tradeshow.

Featuring attendees that included local vertical operators to packaging companies and seed suppliers, the event attracted a diverse mix of guests and exhibitors that highlighted the region’s growing role in the cannabis world.

Day 1: Stronger Turnout and High Energy

As expected, Day 1 of CannaCon Cleveland saw significantly more foot traffic than Day 2 which was scheduled on the same day as the locally produced event Ohio Cannabis Health & Business Summit. Attendees of Cannacon came from all corners of the state and country, eager to learn, network, and engage with the cannabis community. Although the event wasn’t packed, the smaller turnout allowed for more in-depth conversations between exhibitors and the attendees.

The showroom floor, while on the smaller side, was filled with a wide range of companies representing various facets of the cannabis industry. Packaging and seeds, soil, hardware, extraction equipment, drying and curing technology, all of this was represented and provided an educational experience for those looking to break into the Ohio cannabis market or enhance their existing operations.

Local Vertical Operators Show Up

One of the highlights of CannaCon Cleveland was the presence of several local vertical operators—companies that control every aspect of cannabis production, from cultivation to retail. While the event may have lacked the large, flashy displays typical of bigger expos, these local operators brought a unique, grassroots feel to the show. The smaller crowd allowed for more meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing the Ohio market, which is still developing compared to more mature cannabis states.

It was fun getting to see these local operators connect with the homies at Grove Bags, Atlas Seed, Hawaiian Budline, Cannatrol, and The Preroll Distro.

Exhibitors: Standouts from Packaging to Seeds

Despite the modest size of the event, several exhibitors stood out, offering innovative products and solutions for cannabis businesses. Among the most notable were:

Grove Bags: Known for their innovative cannabis packaging solutions, Grove Bags continues to impress with products designed to extend the shelf life of cannabis. Their eco-friendly, humidity-controlled packaging is helping to set a new standard for preserving product potency and freshness. They were definitely a favorite among the packaging exhibitors at the show.

Atlas Seed: A key player in the cannabis seed industry, Atlas Seed showcased a range of high-quality seeds that cater to both small-scale and large-scale growers. Their focus on genetics and consistency makes them a reliable choice for cultivators looking to enhance their crop quality.

Athena: As a leading brand in cannabis cultivation products, Athena brought their innovative line of fertilizers and nutrients to the show. Their booth was consistently busy, as growers sought out their expert advice on optimizing plant health and yields.

Preroll Distro: Specializing in pre-roll manufacturing and distribution, Preroll Distro made a strong impression with their top-tier production methods and focus on delivering high-quality products. For businesses looking to enhance their pre-roll offerings, this exhibitor provided valuable insights and solutions.

Though CannaCon Cleveland wasn’t the largest cannabis or most valuable event of the year, it provided significant educational value to those who attended. It highlighted the importance of regional events that focus on local operators and provide a platform for the Ohio cannabis industry to grow.

Day 2: A Quieter but Productive Day

Day 2 of CannaCon Cleveland saw a noticeable drop in attendance, but that didn’t stop exhibitors and attendees from making the most of it. The smaller crowd allowed for more focused interactions, giving business owners and potential partners the time to dive deep into specific topics and business solutions.

While the energy may have been lower than on Day 1, those who remained squeezed what value they could from the more intimate setting. Exhibitors were able to spend more time with interested parties, answering detailed questions and offering insights that may have been missed in a busier environment.

As the state’s market continues to evolve, events will continue to play an essential role in fostering connections, educating entrepreneurs, and showcasing the latest in cannabis innovation.
