Although cannabis has always been a part of music and event culture, this year’s edition of SXSW will forever go down as the one that officially included cannabis and hemp for the first time. Each day had various types of events ranging from meetups and networking sessions to panels and concerts with CBD dab bars.
Cannabis is still illegal in Texas but these events weren’t breaking the law in any way. CBD and hemp really stole the spotlight at the events since those kinds of products could be sampled with little to no risk. The focus of each experience was primarily on networking, education, and entertainment, with some of the private events having an area that was more friendly to the authentic culture behind dabbing and smoking various types of cannabis or hemp.
The panels provided great insight for entrepreneurs looking to work in the space, also giving experienced business owners the chance to connect and gain new contacts. Thankfully, most of the speakers hung out to network afterward which really added major value to the entire experience.
While I was walking around 6th street, people were smoking blunts and joints all over the place. Everywhere I looked, people seemed to be rolling up or sparking something up with their lighter.
Thousands of cannabis professionals attended SXSW’s panels and education sessions. SXSW did a great job of connecting cannabis-curious people to experienced veterans and truly helped normalize cannabis by connecting music lovers and entrepreneurs at the same event series.
