The 2024 Cannabis Election Results Leave Much to Be Desired

It was another busy year for cannabis initiatives at the ballot box. There were four states that had major cannabis election results: Nebraska, Florida, North Dakota, and South Dakota. There was also a sneaky psychedelic measure that voted on in Massachusetts. Overall, it’s easy to say cannabis wasn’t terribly popular with voters in their respective state elections and the overall cannabis election results reflect that.

Cannabis Election Results

Nebraska

Initiative 437: Legalize Medical Marijuana. This would allow patients and their caregivers to posses up to five ounces of cannabis.

70.7% For

29.3% Against

868,315 total votes

Nebraska Initiative 438: Establish a Medical Cannabis Commission. This measure would create a regulatory board to manage Nebraska’s medical system.

66.9% For

33.1% Against

Florida

Amendment 3: Legalize Marijuana. This amendment would let adults 21 and over buy and use cannabis.

44.1% No

55.9% Yes

10,629,879 total votes

North Dakota

Measure 5: Legalize Marijuana. This measure would allow people 21 and over the ability to produce, sell, and use cannabis.

52.5% No

47.5% Yes

361,936 total votes

South Dakota

Measure 29: Legalize Marijuana. This measure would allow people 21 and up to use and sell up to two ounces of cannabis.

56.1% No

43.9% Yes

Psychedelics

Massachusetts

Question 4: Legalize Psychedelic Substances. This proposal would allow people 21 and over to grow and use psilocybin, psilocin, dimethyltryptamine, mescaline, and ibogaine. The substances would only be available and approved for purchase and licensed locations.
