Recreational cannabis has changed the way we incorporate THC into our everyday lives. Cannabis butter gives us the ability to virtually infused anything that we already eat.
When consuming edibles orally, it can take a lot longer for effect to take off. Normally once the high is in motion, it lasts a lot longer then if you were to smoke it. We suggest starting with small amounts. A piece of toast and jam is a solid way to test the potency of your batch.
Step 1 – Decarboxylate your cannabis
- Preheat oven to 215 degrees Fahrenheit
- Be sure to grind up your weed into small pieces but don’t grind it into a power.
- Spread evenly over cooking pan and cover with aluminum foil
- Bake for 10 to 40 minutes.
This step is where the THC becomes active through a process called decarboxylation. You are simply heating the cannabis to release the active natural psychoactive properties.
Step 2 – Add butter and water to stove, cook on low, throw in the weed
- Add 1lb of butter
- 1 cup of water
- once butter melts, add 1oz of ground cannabis
Note: This batch is for experienced cannabis user, for smaller doses, fix ratio
Step 3 – Simmer 3-5 hours
- Keep the batch simmer on low for a minimum of 3 hours. The longer you can stand the smell, the better.
- Make sure it never boils (We don’t want to burn out the THC)
- Remove from heat and let cool
Step 4 – Strain out plant material
- Cover top of ceramic bowl with cheesecloth
- Pour hot butter into your bowl while using the cheesecloth to strain the plant matter
Note: Be careful of backsplash, hot butter does not feel good.
Step 5 – Refrigerate for hardening
- Remove cheesecloth
- cover with aluminum foil and put in fridge until harden
- The butter will separate from the water and you will need to remove it and put into a different container.
Now its time to use your cannabis butter! For easy spreading, leave at room temperature. If you’re thinking about cooking with it, make sure to add it at the end on low so you don’t burn out all the THC.
