Mischaela Mathews AKA Breakfast Santana is a Tacoma-native who’s been dropping some low-key classics and racking up streams. Claiming that the name came to her during a random freestyle at work, she’s rapidly garnering attention from the online world. Between dropping one of her first songs that stacked up a million streams within a year of its release, and recently dropping an EP—this lady is on a mission.
The young spitter now resides in Dallas, TX and pulls influences from Kanye West, Ludacris, Kriss Kross, Ma$e, and Diddy. Her first big single “Baggage” produced by Khaji Beats has become her calling card. This song is already over a million streams and counting. Peep the cut below and see how Breakfast Santana‘s “making these bitches look average.”
“Baggage” features the classic downtempo horn samples that we all love. Breakfast Santana’s bars are clean and compliment the beat well. The lyrical content tells a story of Mathews peeping a fine lady that ultimately bogs her down with baggage and co-dependent behavior. Mathews goes on to spit lines about how people fall prey to trying too hard to please both their partner, their friends, and society in general. Real bars over fat booms and baps—I can’t complain.
In addition to dropping a hit single this year Breakfast Santana just put out a 5-song EP titled “#CRYFEST1988.” The EP came out early October and features production from DJ STRIVER. You can stream the EP on all platforms, as well as hit play below.
