TikTok does it again; it revived a drowning song. New York rapper, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie rescued his song, “Drowning,” featuring Kodak Bodak by using TikTok to give it CPR. There are many dances on TikTok, this one, in particular, includes a sped-up version of the song. So far, it has over 600-thousand videos under the sound with millions of views on many different videos. The craziest thing about this song is that the RIAA has labeled it as 7x platinum, yet it only peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. That shows you how well a song can do when if it goes crazy viral.

Sped-Up Songs Are The New Trend
On TikTok, sped-up versions are the second most popular reason songs start to trend. Of course, the first is dancing. So, when we combine the two trends, it becomes a viral hit. Sped-up versions connect with listeners more, and the songs are shorter. However, this song by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was actually sped-up five years ago- why the wait? This should have blown years ago. This song has a short dance, but it isn’t easy to understand the lyrics, so the lip syncs do not roll of the tongue.
While this song has not charted high on Billboard, it still has over 630 million streams on Spotify. It is one of the most famous songs from A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie; even though it was released five years ago. Interestingly enough, it has only charted in Canada and the United States.

The Underrated Success in Modern Rap
One of the most exciting things about A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is that he is an album artist. He has never had a single in the top ten on Billboard, but all of his albums have gone platinum. On top of that, Hoodie SZN was in the top 100 albums of the last decade. WOW! Perhaps his new fame on TikTok will make his singles more successful.
Let’s face it, TikTok has taken control of the music industry (or at the very least factors into what will make it big), and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie is no exception. He is about to release an album next month called, A Boogie vs. Artist, and this new dance trend will spike streams. Rappers with shorter songs are usually the ones who trend most on TikTok. So, watch out for his new album next month!
