Boldy James and Benny The Butcher Bring The Heat to House of Blues-San Diego: Recap

The House of Blues on Saturday night was bursting at the seams with eager fans, creating an atmosphere pulsating with an electrifying energy. As the opening artists took the stage, the venue erupted with excitement, echoing with the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd. The anticipation for Boldy James and Benny The Butcher only intensified as the night progressed.

For me, it was a momentous occasion, marking my first experience seeing them perform live. I had high expectations for their live performance, energy, and ability to engage the audience, and I’m pleased to say that they exceeded every one of them. From the moment they stepped onto the stage until the final encore, the energy inside the venue was exhilarating, fueling an atmosphere of hyped fans.

The Boldy James and Benny The Butcher Experience

Following the opening artists’ performances the lights dimmed and James and his entourage took the stage. Opening up with Double Hockey Sticks the venue soon became exceptionally loud with fans going crazy and rapping his lyrics. With James’ distinct sound and old school hip-hop influence tied with his catchy lyricism, it was effortless getting the fans in tune with his music. His rapping skills mirrored what I had listened to personally prior to seeing him live. With a strong opening act with a collaborative performance with him and his son, the crowd and myself were left wanting more!

Benny The Butcher started off strong with one of his most popular songs Rubber Bands and Weight. As he took the stage it illuminated and everyone began screaming and rapping along with him. His stage presence and energy matches what you get from when you listen to his songs on your own and that was something I enjoyed a lot. Much like Boldy, Benny’s ability to hold a crowd was done with ease. As his set went on I was able to witness his talent behind the mic lyrically and the aggression and passion he puts into the spoken words of his songs.

Highlights throughout the duration of the night included their crew bringing up a select few local artists to showcase their talents on stage. Taking the time to do that was a cool experience for me to see artists get an opportunity. The performances by all the artists including the artists were great. They all possess gritty, story telling, and heavily lyrical styles that are unique.

My Thoughts on Boldy James and Benny The Butcher

After listening to them for a couple years I have learned to really enjoy their abilities individually as artists as well as in collaboration together. There was no surprise to me after witnessing them live in concert and seeing what they can do. Being interactive with the fans was cool to see which heightened the experience for not only them but for me in attendance as well. As Boldy James and Benny The Butcher continue to grow and push the margins of the underground scene of hip-hop culture I am looking forward to what new sounds we get out of the two in the future.
