2020 was set to be Germany-based rapper Billi Premo’s breakout year. After a busy year in 2019, she checked out of her Nuremberg hotel and headed back to Kaiserslautern. After attending ATLANTA as an A3C artist, she concluded her performances for the year.
Between BET weekend, a six city tour, three festival performances, and another at SXSW, Billi and her team weren’t ready to just take a break either. The first half of 2020 was already prepped for a non-stop hustle when she was stopped on the way to the airport on March 12th. She wasn’t able fly out.
Just the night before, former president Trump’s office closed off travel to Europe in an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19. Even though the virus had been spreading since November, most countries did not make efforts to counteract it until March—and the United States was no exception.
Billi Premo Presents “Lou B” And Talks Building Their Music Career In Germany
Focused on the Bag
The pandemic hasn’t slowed Billi down, however. Smack in the middle of 2020, her music video for “Lou B” was nominated at the International Independent Music Video Awards. And now in 2021, she has dropped her first solo EP “Billi O’Naire.”
EP Breakdown
The-four track EP “Billi O’Naire” is a baller look at what Billi is all about. The first track “Everything Foreign” is a get-up-and-grind theme that stockpiles hype. Catching planes and exotic luxuries are Billi’s game, and she plays it well.
The next track “Heart Strings” hooks on the line “focus on the bag but she pullin’ heartstrings.” The track on this one is big on the bass and accompanied by a soft acoustic guitar loop. Having a silky love song like this clarifies Billi’s versatility in the rap game. The ability to create a softer sound with bars like hers is nothing short of impressive.
Number three is “Maneuver,” and features MBM Bama. This mix is trap-rap ear candy, and moreover, another feel-good song to bounce the listener back from the second track’s mellow vibes. Billi goes off in this one like no other. If it weren’t for how hard the fourth track hits, it would probably be our favorite.
“Billi O’Naire” wraps up with Billi’s hit track “Mad.” This song has already accumulated over 26k streams on Spotify, and it’s a fire finale for the project. “Mad” was dropped in the second half of 2019, originally meant to serve as a harbinger for her 2020 reign.
It is because of “Mad” that “Billi O’Naire” represents Billi’s refusal to let the events of the pandemic hinder her grind. This album is a dope experience definitely worth checking out.
