Benny Freestyles and Mod Sun just released a chill new single, “Empty Eyes” along with an accompanying music video. Both released on October 21st, 2020.
Benny Freestyles is a kind, free-spirited rapper, and producer who reminds us all to take time for ourselves. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, his childhood traveling across the globe with family cultivated the spiritual aesthetic.
“The Ready Freestyle” is the first project of this rapper and where he earned his namesake. Ever since that first freestyle, the Rhode Island rapper steadily works on projects, often with artists such as MOD SUN. “Empty Eyes” is the third project from the duo, and from the sound of it, it won’t be the last.
Benny says the song is about “staying true to yourself and not letting the way of the world sway you.”
These two rappers came from different small cities and wanted to stay grounded with all the glitz and glamour in Hollywood. Knowing these struggles, it can be hard to focus on your art. Especially when there are so many seemingly amazing dazzling things to distract.

From hand gestures covering their eyes to the nostalgic film shots of Hollywood, the two paint the picture of what they feel L.A. is supposed to be in “Empty Eyes.”
The music video is 3 minutes and 22 seconds long. With the delicate piano and energizing drum loops, this song could go on forever due to its dreamy hypnotizing beat. The video begins with the artists covering their eyes, symbolizing their refusal to be a part of the soulless part of fame Hollywood can create. “‘Empty Eyes’ is inspired by knowing who to trust, and the vulnerability that comes along with that,” Benny says.
The rapper continues, saying MOD SUN “really connected to the message in this song and brought a tremendous feeling to the chorus.”
Both artists wander L.A. together so listeners can hear their personal message carried throughout the song. Benny concludes, “This song is meant for listeners to feel empowered and know they are not alone in this ever-changing society of judgment, worry, and non-believers.”
