We all have a side of us that we rarely or may never really show to the world. A persona that is still yourself but also alien in a way to where it can get misconstrued and maligned in day to day perception. Bendi is an artist from Spokane that embraces his alien side. He sees how people aren’t confident expressing themselves and nervous about rejection. Bendi throws caution out the window and uses his “alien” to his advantage.
Be Your “Alien”
By “alien” Bendi doesn’t mean in the literal sense like he thinks he’s from another planet. It’s just a way to express things about himself that others may not understand and him being OK with that.
His track “Renaissance,” off his latest EP I Need Space, is about self-reflection and taking time mental restart. For the song, Bendi linked up with talented vocalists Loraina Kenyon who absolutely kills the sultry hook that ties this song together. Bendi takes inspiration from everything going on in the music scene and his personal friend group. Bendi wants people to believe they can fall, get back up, and keep it moving.
The music video starts out pretty straightforward with Bendi rapping about his current status and how he’s going to get to where he wants to be in life. An advocate for education on psychedelics, things start to get a little trippy as he begins to explore his deeper self. Halfway through the song, there’s a moment of self-realization and you see Bendi actually turn into the alien he’s always felt like. Coming to life after he’s worked through his personal issues to find a sense of peace and balance to become self-actualized.
“Going through this quest, been bringing up some questions. I won’t let it press me know my life is precious. I can turn a mess into a message I’ve been getting more from less that’s what I call a lesson.”
