Respect My Region was in attendance for Dreamville recording-artist Bas at his first show of the ‘We Only Talk About Sh*t When We’re Fu*ked Up’ tour. Not only were fans in attendance impressed, but we were left speechless by the moving performances of night one.
The tour kicked off at 7:45pm at House of Blues in Dallas with opening act Hoosh taking the stage, followed by Rueben Vincent and Blxckie. As each act progressed through their set, you could feel the excitement and energy building up in the room.
North Carolina native Rueben Vincent was very impressive in his set. Immediately as he hit the stage, his energy and flow commanded the crowd’s participation in his performance. He even jumped off stage to perform right next to fans as they took videos and selfies.
Blxckie showcased a flow that caught our attention immediately. His smooth-melodic tone made it easy to digest as a listener. Hoosh did his thing as well, showing fans in attendance that he will be a name to remember in the coming years.
Bas Recap: The Performance
For not headlining a tour in over 5 years, you’d think Bas would show jitters of some sort; That was not the case. The set started off with dimming the stage lights as fans began to scream and press record on their phones. The intro to his single ‘Black Jedi‘ started to play and fans went absolutely berserk.
As Bas came out, he quickly began to showcase his smooth, yet energetic style of rap he possesses. Throughout the night he took fans on a trip down memory lane, playing classic hits like ‘Night Job‘ and ‘The Jackie‘. He also performed tracks on his recent album like ‘Choppas‘ and ‘Wait on Me‘. His performance of Wait on Me was my personal highlight of the night. His overall production of the show and his ability to connect with his fans while performing made me gain a lot of respect for his artistry.
Last night felt perfectly executed, and is what concerts should feel like. His entire set was well paced with the correct balanced of when to change moods of the set and how to relate the music with fans so they can connect to your performance. Bas also played with a live band which included legendary musician Ron Gilmore Jr on the keyboards. Ron had a moment where he performed a solo, and throughout the playing I couldn’t help but to reminisce on all he’s created with Dreamville. The Diehard Dreamville fans know Ron one of them ones.
Not too often you go see a rapper who uses a live band. For us, it felt like a breath of fresh air to hear vocalist and musicians complimenting the performance.
In his set, Bas got emotional speaking to fans. He thanked them for their support over the years in his musical journey.
In the room you could feel the positivity energy flowing from those on stage and in the crowd. My favorite tracks of the night had to be ‘Tribe’ and ‘Down Bad’. The nostalgia feel I got from hearing those songs was a bittersweet feeling.
Stay tuned for more updates from Respect My Region.
