It’s been roughly three years in the making but we’re finally blessed with the track many hip-hop heads have been waiting for. Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar have released a new song and music video titled “family ties.” And as I’m sure you’ve picked up by now, Keem and Kendrick are related.
Baby Keem is also in partnership with pgLang, Kendrick, and Dave Free’s service company for creators. This has been a huge boost to Keem’s career. It has helped him with marketing/management and is part of why people wondered what took the two so long to collab. But, Keem and Kendrick’s relationship goes way beyond just music. In an interview with Nadeska Alexis in June, he talked about how he goes to both Kendrick and Free whenever he needs any wisdom or advice.
“Whenever I need anything regarding life and if I need some wisdom, then that’s who I go to. They’re one of the first people I look towards, Kendrick and Dave Free.”

Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar Release Cinematic Visuals For “family ties”
The track itself is an anthemic classic TDE banger with verse 1 reminding me of some Jay Rock mixed with Tory Lanez. Verse 2 is purely Kendrick being Kendrick and murdering the beat with his signature quick wit and interconnected wordplay. Closing out the track together with a quick outro, Keem and Kendrick put a stamp on possibly the hardest track of 2021.
The video for “family ties” is a creative masterpiece, a collage of scenes and storylines in verse 1 and then a more simple scene by scene style for verse 2. We see Kendrick geeking and just doing his thing but also get a quick look at his current mentality. Is this one of the hardest tracks and videos so far this year?
