As long as rap has existed, dope spitters fly under the radar. Sometimes the machine didn’t push them right, sometimes their career is cut short, and other times the music just didn’t connect with the mainstream. AZ has been my personal favorite rapper since my youth.
AZ…not Jay-Z (sounds similar I know). Aka Anthony Cruz aka Sosa. The Brooklyn rapper has made a name for his rhyme skills and collaborations with Nas. While I feel the mainstream never felt AZ, his videos were kind of terrible and he never shook the baggie clothes.
While his image may not have hit raps elite, his wordplay play and ability to rhyme has etched him into the most underrated of all time. Check out the list of my favorite cuts from SOSA and pay homage to a legend!
