Avery Wilson’s ‘Kiss the Sky’ is not receiving the hype it deserves. The young R&B singer-songwriter released the song in late September. It totally embodies everything 2000s R&B stands for. Picture In My Own Words Ne-Yo meets a mix of 8701 and Confessions USHER.
In fact, you can tell someone ‘Kiss the Sky’ was released in 2006 and no one would doubt you. Wilson taps into those 2000s R&B tones to a tee. You just have to listen to this song.

Let’s say firstly that in this steamy single, Wilson sings about the “private party” he’s going to have with the person he’s with, and how he wants to take them on a “natural high.”
He’s super into this person, as he sings “you deserve a kind of love/that feels like paradise/let me light you up/’til you kiss the sky.”
He heavenly incorporates Jackie Wilson-like runs into this song which help make it a beautiful and easy listen. His raspiness also makes an appearance and adds so much depth to his song.
The background harmonies included also add to the depth and might be one of the most important R&B factors of this song, as well as his choice of rhythm and change of key in various parts of the song.
The nearly six-minute song switches up with a short countdown by Wilson that transitions into a vocals-and-drums moment that leads so smoothly into the end of the song.
