After last year’s runner-up placement to the Dallas Empire, the Atlanta FaZe had redemption this time around and secured the 2021 Call of Duty League Championship this past Sunday. They defeated Toronto Ultra with a 5-3 win.
Atlanta FaZe Resets the Team
After last year’s disappointing second-place finish, Atlanta FaZe kept a core three of Cellium, Simp, and aBeZy and replaced 2020 teammates Priestahh and MajorManiak. With the 2021 CDL Championship becoming a four-vs-four competition, FaZe only needed to pick up one new teammate.
Arcitys completes the fab FaZe four this year. After finding much success with Simp and aBeZy during the Black Ops 4 season, it only made sense to bring Arcitys to the roster.
The new Atlanta FaZe roster smashed the CDL 2021 competition by winning three of the first four Majors. However, they found difficulty during the fifth and final major. FaZe headed home after losing two series in a row and finishing in eighth. Though FaZe got blue-shielded, they came back hard for the CDL Championship.
Atlanta FaZe came out hard by sweeping both the Dallas Empire and the New York Subliners. On their path to the grand finals, they secured a perfect 6-0 map count. It seemed almost fitting that after defeating FaZe in a grand final this season, Toronto Ultra would meet them again in the Championship finals.
Faze Defeats Toronto Ultra: 5-3
Though Cellium led the series in overall K/D, it was aBeZy who earned the CDL Playoffs’ MVP award. aBeZy helped his team majorly during the Express Search and Destroy by getting quick first bloods. This gave Atlanta FaZe a 4-vs-3 advantage in many of the rounds. Thus, FaZe secured the map 6-5. In addition, he had the second-best overall K/D.
The three Black Ops 4 teammates have now found a second world championship during this year’s CDL grand finals. Simp, the regular season MVP, is considered as one of the greatest. However, winning a second MVP puts himself in the stratosphere as one of the best of all time to ever pick up a controller.
Atlanta FaZe’s 2021 season will go down in esports history as one of the greatest campaigns to ever touch professional Call of Duty. After three Major wins, an impressive 37-7 match record, and the CDL Championship belt to place the cherry on top, FaZe finds themselves as the kings of the hill.
