Acapulco Gold has been entering the lungs of cannabis smokers for decades. Pictures of what it used to look like routinely make appearances in High Times or in Marijuana history books. I even remember hearing it mentioned in The Devil Went Down to Jamaica. With just over a decade of smoking experience, I had merely heard rumors of the potency that Acapulco Gold. To say the least, I was excited to find it on the shelves at The Evergreen Market in Auburn, Washington.
Acapulco Gold Flower
With the reputation that follows this strain, I knew that I was going to be in for an experience and that started the minute I opened the packaging. Immediately my car was filled with an overwhelming sage smell that not only filled my car but the backpack I was taking hiking with me as well. The buds are a variety of shades of green with orange hairs. The buds in this particular package were not covered in trichomes, but I had already convinced myself that based on smell alone that did not matter. These were light and fluffy nugs that easily broke apart in my hands into perfect knife-hit-sized nugs.
I enjoyed smoking this strain while hiking through the woods, finding myself focused on everything that was going around me, but not overwhelmed with any anxiety or paranoia typically associated with potent Sativas. It smoked super smooth and I immediately felt like I was floating with a little extra in my step. This is not a strain you want to smoke if you feel like just being stoned on the couch spacing out with either Destiny or football. However, I had a terrible case of the munchies almost immediately after smoking, so be prepared with your favorite munchies.
