SXSW Festival Returns to Austin with Live Music, Educational Panels, Films, Comedy, & More

The long-awaited SXSW 2022 festival is almost here. It is one of the biggest music and entertainment events globally, and it has fans running back to Austin, Texas. The festival will feature music and film festivals, conference sessions, comedy, exhibitions, and more. It’s a one-stop shop for both indie lovers and the mainstream following.

From March 11-20, the ten-day SXSW event can almost be sensory overload if it’s your first time diving into it. Breaking it down into their respective categories, this is everything you need to know going into SXSW 2022.

With hundreds of artists from around the globe, both up-and-comers and vets, to the game, we will have this year’s SXSW 2022 music buzzing. For instance, Houston star Maxo Kream makes his return following his Weight Of The World album release. Additionally, South London vocalist Poppy Ajudha will be gracing the British Music Embassy at Cedar Street Courtyard on March 18th from 10-10:40 pm. The performances will genuinely have you stumped on, which shows you want to see more with all the great artists playing around you.

With so many options, it’s better to wander around and see what musical space calls your ears at the moment. But, if you like to plan, click here to see all artists and where to find them. Of course, there are always those must-watch acts, and this year, for me at least, that would be Kygo, Frank Walker, and Forester. They go on The Stage at SXSW in Waterloo Park from 7 pm-10:30 pm.

SXSW Film Festival

March 11th kicks off this year’s film festival with highly anticipated projects from some of your favorite creators and surprises in store. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s adventure film The Lost City will draw a good crowd. Pete Davidson’s “secret slasher” Bodies, Bodies, Bodies was one that many people didn’t see coming, but we’re excited to watch. Following a group of rich 20-year-olds whose games during a hurricane party take a deadly turn. It’s a pretty standard slasher plot, but I’m sure the unpredictable Davidson will have something fresh in there for us.

Donald Glover will also be premiering the third season of his hit series Atlanta. With 99 feature films, 111 short films, 24 music videos, and 29 XR (extended reality) titles. It’s going to be a good week in Austin for film buffs. Check out the full line-up here.

Comedy, Panels, & More

Great panels will take place throughout the week, consisting of industry leaders talking about problems in their industry, society, and world issues. SXSW is a great place to meet with like-minded individuals and, more importantly, converse with some who offer differing and enlightening discussions. With several panels happening daily, it’s an excellent opportunity to listen in on topics ranging from global warming and women’s rights to how the “metaverse can rebuild society.” Check out dates and times for panels here.

Comedy and art are also a considerable part of the SXSW 2022 experience. You can laugh all week and even catch a Roast Battle March 12-14th from 11 pm-12:30 am at Creek and the Cave. Or you can see one of your favorites in solo acts here. If you’re looking for a break from all the music and media, go check out some of the art installations done by Jameel Shabazz and ScanLAB Projects in their respective programs. There are also some incredible XR experiences happening all day from 11 am-6 pm March 13-15th in Fairmont, Congressional A.

If you thought that was a lot to take in, we barely even scratched the surface of all that SXSW 2022 has to offer. Stop reading and swoop your badges now and see for yourself just how awesome it is this year.
