Digga D just released a two-pack of some pretty tough drill music. While “Wasted” came out earlier this summer, Digga packaged the already successful single with his newest track, “2k17,” which was released September 9th. The music video for “2k17” was released earlier this week, while “Wasted” was released on YouTube last month. Both music videos have already amassed over 3 million views each. The songs have generated more than 10 million combined streams on Spotify as well.
The 21-year-old London-based rapper is huge in the European sphere. He rose to fame with his honest portrayal of urban life and the violence that sometimes follows.
Digga D’s New Music is Monitored by the Police
Before releasing new music, Digga D is required to give London police a 24-hour notice. These restrictions are due to his involvement in the infamous 2019 machete brawl, which led to a year-long prison sentence. The court declared that Digga D’s lyrics were proof that he aimed to intentionally incite violence.

As a result of probation, his new songs are conspicuously absent of mentions of knife fights and violence. Digga D didn’t even mention how he mysteriously lost sight in his eye during prison, which was a result of getting stabbed with a blade fashioned from a tuna can. Instead, his new lyrics focus on pretty girls, hard drugs, and lots and lots of money.
Drill Music Gives a Voice to Those Trying to Survive in a Harsh, Urban World
Many argue that drill music focuses on the harsh reality that many young black men face. Drill music aims to give voice to their experiences, no matter how gritty, violent, or upsetting those stories might be.
“…this was the real world these rappers lived, and thus rapped about, a world borne of conditions that racism helped to create,” said writer Alphonso Pierre in a late-2019 Pitchfork feature naming drill “the Decade’s Most Important Rap Subgenre.”
Digga D’s songs have spread like wildfire due to the blunt truths he delivers in his songs.
“There’s more in my heart that I would like to speak about and show,” said Digga D.
Listeners will have to wait patiently to hear uncensored content from Digga D, but there’s good news on the horizon. Digga D’s court order expires in 2025, and then he will be able to speak his mind freely.
