The film adaptation of the award-winning 2015 Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen is coming to theaters September 24th. With it comes some new music that wasn’t in the original musical. The newest single, titled “The Anonymous Ones,” features St. Louis-born artist SZA. But other big names on the soundtrack will include Sam Smith, Tori Kelly, Dan + Shay, Finneas, and more. The soundtrack will be available on streaming services on the same day the film premiers.
The newly released single “The Anonymous Ones,” is sung by the character played by Amandla Stenberg. But, there are two different versions of the same song on the new album. One by Amandla Stenberg, and one by SZA.
SZA created the newest version of the song in her vocal pop-R&B style and absolutely killed it. Her angelic voice paired with the background adlibs always just hit different. This track comes only a couple of weeks after SZA randomly released three new songs on SoundCloud.

“The Anonymous Ones” by SZA Has a Personal Meaning
The lyrics of “The Anonymous Ones,” are about those who often find themselves stuck in the shadows of the world. SZA says she has felt like this before. Her song “Drew Barrymore” reflects a similar message about how she doesn’t feel good enough.
SZA Has Featured on Many Other Film Soundtracks
SZA has created bops since her first studio album, Ctrl, released in 2017. Her success has given her opportunities to be on movie soundtracks such as Black Panther and Trolls. Recently, SZA featured alongside SAINt JHN on “Just For Me” from Space Jam: A New Legacy. It’s clear we won’t stop seeing her name on beautiful tracks anytime soon.
