Coming out of Detroit, Michigan, Link Sinatra understands his environment. “Son of God” drips local swag from the first moment, as the video features cross streets, a corvette, and blue pop. As far as for setting choice, Sinatra couldn’t have been smarter. Each scene within the video smoothly represents an authentic view of the city.
Hip with the current waves of aesthetics, “Son of God” seems reminiscent of some of Bones’s aesthetic. The editing features retro filters and the static of old VCRs, but rather then go into a darker feel, Sinatra stays up. The whole video bounces with the optimism of a real G, where stories are woven with confidence and one liners easily fit into the track.
Sinatra Set his Stride with “Son of God”
Lyrically Sinatra keeps it traditional with his Detroit flow, easily fitting into the landscape. Still, with a consistent flow and choice beat selection, his music stands out for the crispness it achieves. However, Sinatra does run into some issues even on “Son of God” where he overfills the instrumental. If he tried less, and let his voice carry, his tracks could come out as nearly ideal pop. Otherwise, he’s refining his skill and proving his claim to the game.
Whether it’s describing how he’d shoot, or describing his rise up as a rapper, Sinatra comes off confident. His words flow, and they’re what he wrote. “Son of God” is one of the local tracks which deserves to be bumped past 313.
