We live in an immensely impressionable time and the prominence of prescription drug abuse in rap music has seen ample light lately. The genre of rap is no stranger to topics such as guns, gang violence, murder, and drug use. Sipping lean specifically has been a popular drug of choice for many rappers over the years such as Lil’ Wayne.
Atlanta-artist and purveyor of trap culture Future has arguably built an empire on content filled with the influence of lean and prescription drugs. In a recent interview with Rob Markman from Genius the rapper admitted to no longer sipping lean, as well as why he hid the fact from his fans.
Apparently Future thought his fans wouldn’t take to his new lean-free lifestyle. In the interview with Genius he remarked that “it just be hard when your fans so used to a certain persona, you be afraid to change.” Do you think hip-hop culture is shifting to favor less reckless drug use? Are artists kicking the habit in the wake of the untimely deaths of artists such as Lil Peep? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
