Cannabis Reclassification—Federal Government Seeks Public Comment
The federal government wants your input on proposing cannabis reclassification under global treaties. Seriously. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking public commentary on the “abuse potential, actual abuse, medical usefulness, trafficking, and impact of scheduling changes on availability for medical use of cannabis.” Several other substances along with cannabis are now under international review.
Cannabis still lies under the most restrictive category of federal law and global drug policy agreements (Schedule I.) This means it’s still illegal, not available for prescription, and research on its potential benefits are highly restricted. To have a chance at reclassification of cannabis on a federal and global level is huge…as the U.S. is part of these drug treaties.
The FDA is accepting digital and written comments on cannabis and the other substances under review until October 31st. Submit your comments HERE.
Your thoughts and commentary on this subject are extremely valuable as we exist in a volatile/pivotal time of cannabis legislation. The LCB in Washington have been making harsh, and rushed decisions that have strongly affected retailers, producers, and growers in the state. Recently they shut down production of gummy edibles entirely.
