After teaming up to release “Albino Rhino” a few months ago, Sam Lachow and Nacho Picasso have finally dropped the visual – which only amplifies the overall meaning and delivery of the song. The track was initially created while on tour with Rittz of Strange Music, and it can be seen on Lachow’s latest EP titled Motels & Minivans.
“Albino Rhino” stands out because it offers many different looks both musically and visually. One of the most refreshing elements seen in the song is the exchanging of lines between both rappers. Instead of having a featured artist spit a 16 bar verse, both Lachow and Picasso opt to have an equal presence on the track. As a result, their creative, descriptive, and realistic lines pair well with one another and elevate the overall meaning and message as a whole.
Produced by Paranoid Afterparty, the feeling and tone of the instrumental fits perfectly with Lachow and Picasso’s lyrics and delivery. The instrumental features a light woodwind lead mixed with heavy 808s, a pairing that creates space for both MCs to have a natural sonic fit on “Albino Rhino” from start to finish.
While both artists showcase their artistry to the highest level, the video for “Albino Rhino” is equally as masterful. Directed by Andrew Imanaka, the video itself artistically pictures the effects of cocaine. Lachow and Picasso are seen at a party with a group of people all wearing masks. Some of the women wear masks that look like lambs, possibly alluding to the lyric: “I might be done with Seattle women / they’re too easy.”
The video is a masterpiece of visual effects, coming off as both eerie and fascinating in its portrayal of the disjointed, maniacal effects of cocaine. The neon colors serve as a beautiful backdrop to the difficult story told in the lyrics. Overall, the visual for “Albino Rhino” is undoubtedly a must-watch.
