Up-and-coming Boise R&B singer Hakeem Prime is back with a new video for his song “Zodiac,” which can be heard on his latest EP, titled Signs. Since dropping Signs, Hakeem Prime has demonstrated his effortless ability to transcend audiences of all demographics by creating music that is catchy and engaging, while growing his brand and connecting with his community. Outside the world of music, Hakeem Prime has taken on a new role as an activist in his local scene as a speaker for both the Enough Is Enough Movement and March For Our Lives – expanding his notability not just by getting behind the mic as a musician, but also by using his voice for important political issues, and for social good.
The newly-released video for “Zodiac” holds visual power as a laid-back, reflective lifestyle backdrop for a track that carries a similar relaxed vibe. Produced by Zone, the instrumental is a laid-back R&B/trap-inspired beat that is heavily focused on sharp hi-hats and heavy snares. Above the instrumentals, Hakeem Prime shows notable control and strength in his varied vocal range, highlighted by the challenging melody he skillfully carries throughout the verses.
While the lyrics in Zodiac are primarily a commentary on both the meanings and tendencies of each astrological sign, Hakeem Prime believes that the core message behind the song “means appreciation for signs for what they are worth with epiphany of self and surroundings.” While he believes that your astrological sign should reveal a lot about yourself, he also feels that “you should be respected, praised in your own right for your attributes you choose to acquire.”
“Zodiac” is a positive and uplifting track that hooks listeners with its melody and relatable lyrics, and its catchy, smooth vibe means it will be stuck in your head for days to come. Check out the video for “Zodiac” that also features his song “Real People” as the intro below:
