Death By Stereo 3 is the latest success in the Seattle beat battle franchise. We’ve partnered with Feezable The Germ to continue to elevate the local hip-hop culture and shine a light on the guys and gals behind the boards.
On August 16th a group of Northwest hip-hop fans came together to show love to local up and coming producers. 808s begun to hit as the crowd made their way inside to the stage from lighting up backwoods outside of the High Dive in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood.
With legends like Trox, Brainstorm, and DJ Swerveone judging, the up and coming producers tested their talents against one another. One of Seattle’s more renown producers, Rob Skeetz faced off against Page Turner in the highlight battle of the night. While Skeetz showcased crazy emotional records, Page was able to use his battle experience to keep his tracks a tad more enticing and grab the W.
In all honesty, I was slightly disappointed in the lack of preparedness by some of the producers. A lot of instrumentals were not catered to the beat battle format and there was a severe lack of breakdowns. With this aside, I also witnessed some potential for producers to take this generation of Seattle hip-hop to the next level.
Bravodomo, from Portland, played one of the sickest beats of the night bringing crazy energy. 52kings is proving to be one of my favorite producers in the area. Seriously, this dude has some shit meant for cats to SPIT to! Rob Reeves is crazy. Like this dude has banana nut cakes for beats. Rocky Glover has really transformed his sample abilities and tossed out tee shirts during his set, a nice touch to the performance.
