Since the late 20th century, underground raves have been the backbone of the Electronic Dance Music scene. Today these underground raves STILL pave the way for the EDM scene.
In the Seattle area, AWOL Events is popularizing underground music. Local artists, such as Beauflexx, So Sleepyy, and DJ It Me, frequently share the stage with bigger name artists such as Gent & Jawns, Jinco, Helicopter Showdown, and more recently, Skrillex collaborator Bare Noize, who headlined a show at the Underground last Friday.
One can assume, from just those few recent bookings, that AWOL isn’t leaving anytime soon. It can only get bigger, better, and louder. Speaking of louder, let’s go ahead and turn things down a bit.AWOL Event’s Turn it Down! Festival takes place from June 9th to 11th.
AWOL’s little “trick up their sleeve” is a very unique festival of sorts. On June 9th, they will debut Turn It Down! Festival, a silent disco who’s name is humorous and ironic. All jokes aside, this festival, if successful, could change the game for local festivals. Sound regulations can be set to the side and done away with, while ravers dance into the night with their headphones on without a care in the world.
“Seattle’s first multi-day, multi-location Silent Disco” will be from June 9th to June 11th. A lineup is yet to come so we will be updating when new information arises.
