Just days after opening up about their long term future, Enter Shikari have returned with another surprise. The British rock band released “Higher Ground” on October 7 without any advance announcement or teaser, marking their first new music since the unexpected arrival of Lose Your Self earlier this year.
The timing makes the song particularly interesting. Enter Shikari recently confirmed that after completing their plans through 2027, the band will enter an indefinite hiatus beginning December 31, 2027. Rather than slowing down immediately, however, Rou Reynolds, Chris Batten, Rob Rolfe, and Rory Clewlow still have plenty ahead of them.
“Higher Ground” arrives before two intimate UK shows later this month and a massive UK and European arena tour in November with Holding Absence and The Callous Daoboys.

Enter Shikari Find Perspective On “Higher Ground”
“Higher Ground” continues the bigger picture thinking that has regularly found its way into Enter Shikari’s music.
The new song was originally written during the recording sessions for Lose Your Self, but the band ultimately decided that it didn’t belong within the album.
“Our music has often been about zooming out,” Reynolds explained. “Looking at the bigger picture on things gives us perspective, clarity, and often a strange calm in today’s relentless and difficult times.”
Reynolds explained that looking beyond what’s directly in front of us can reveal connections that aren’t always obvious, both in our own lives and when confronting much larger problems. The idea fits naturally within Enter Shikari’s catalog. The band has never been afraid to use its music to address social issues, technology, politics, climate, mental health, and the increasingly complicated experience of simply existing in the modern world.
“Higher Ground” approaches that familiar territory through optimism. Instead of becoming consumed by the problems immediately surrounding us, the song argues for gaining perspective and looking at the wider picture. The track may have originated during the Lose Your Self sessions, but letting it stand on its own gives the message room to breathe.
Lose Your Self Arrived Without Warning
Surprise releases have become something of a theme for Enter Shikari in 2026.
On April 10, the band released its eighth studio album, Lose Your Self, with essentially no traditional rollout. No advance singles prepared listeners for the record, and no lengthy promotional campaign revealed it piece by piece. Enter Shikari simply released the entire 12 track album.
Even physical editions were ready alongside the digital release, including CD and vinyl versions. The decision was intentional. Rather than feeding listeners individual songs before the album arrived, Enter Shikari wanted Lose Your Self to be experienced as one complete journey.
Across its 12 tracks, the record explored desolation, frustration, and the state of the world while still leaving space for something that has remained important throughout the band’s career: hope.
“Higher Ground” shares some of that DNA, which makes sense considering where the song began. But its separation from the album also lets it become another chapter of its own.
Enter Shikari Announce Plans For An Indefinite Hiatus
The new song also arrives during an emotional period for Enter Shikari and their fans. On October 1, the band announced that it plans to “fall dormant as a recording and performing entity” after December 31, 2027. Importantly, Enter Shikari have not described the decision as a definitive breakup.
The band acknowledged that the hiatus could eventually lead to them becoming active again, while also admitting they don’t know what happens beyond 2027. By then, it will have been 20 years since the release of Enter Shikari’s debut album, Take To The Skies.
Reynolds, Batten, Rolfe, and Clewlow have known one another since they were teenagers. After two decades of professional touring and recording, their priorities and individual capacities have naturally changed.
Reynold’s recent health has also been part of the conversation. He previously spoke publicly about dealing with burnout, OCD, and nervous system sensitization after years of an intense schedule. Still, Enter Shikari has plenty ahead before the hiatus begins.
Enter Shikari Prepare For Massive November Arena Tour
Before the band’s November arena run begins, Enter Shikari will return to considerably smaller rooms for two intimate warm up shows.
They’ll perform at the O2 Academy Oxford on October 21 before heading to the O2 Academy Leicester on October 22.
From there, the scale increases dramatically.
The European leg begins November 3 at Sporthalle in Hamburg and includes the band’s biggest German headline performance to date.
Enter Shikari then return home for the UK portion beginning November 13 at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena.
Holding Absence and The Callous Daoboys will join Enter Shikari across both the European and UK legs, putting together a lineup that should make the upcoming run one of the heavier arena packages hitting Europe this fall.
The UK schedule also includes stops in Cardiff, Hull, Glasgow, and Manchester before concluding with two nights at London’s Alexandra Palace on November 20 and 21.
The upcoming shows continue a live history that has become inseparable from Enter Shikari.
Across their career, the band has played more than 3,000 shows around the world, supported artists including Linkin Park and The Prodigy, and appeared at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Download, Slam Dunk, Warped Tour, Riot Fest, and Sonic Temple.
Another Unexpected Chapter For Enter Shikari
An interesting contrast surrounds “Higher Ground.”
Enter Shikari have just told fans that there is a stopping point ahead, even if nobody currently knows how long that stop will last. At the same time, they’re releasing a song centered around perspective, clarity, and finding optimism while facing difficult circumstances.
The band’s immediate future remains busy.
There are intimate shows this month, a major arena tour in November, more touring planned for 2027, and now another piece of music that wasn’t expected when fans woke up this morning. After more than two decades of constantly evolving, Enter Shikari are once again refusing to make their next move completely predictable.
“Higher Ground” is available now across streaming platforms.
