capitol hill block party day one recap

Capitol Hill Block Party: 8 Artists You Can’t Miss Feat. Anderson .Paak, Porter Robinson, and Slayyyter

Here are the top eight artists on my schedule for Capitol Hill Block Party. The list features a great mix of national headliners, musical savants, and local legends in the making. CHBP has continued to put together some of the best lineups West Coast festivals have to offer.

CHBP Top 8

DJ PeeWee (Anderson .Paak)

A DJ set from a true musical legend has to be at the top of the list. Paak’s DJ alter ego is known for all vinyl sets full of classic jazz, R&B, and hip-hop records. There won’t be a better time to be had all weekend long.

Lexa Gates

Lexa Gates is one of the dopest MCs to grace the airwaves over the last couple of years. An icon in the making, her personality and wit explode through songs like “Latency” and “The Person That I Was Before.” Her latest album, Elite Vessel, should be listened to on repeat. Think Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse with a lot of Queens swagger.

Slayyyter

The Midwest native found a niche for erotic glam techno, and it didn’t take long before she was crushing stages around the world and making crowds of strangers feel things for the first time in ages. There won’t be a hornier or dancier set all weekend.

Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson’s evolution from eclectic dubstep kid to pop electronica demon has been incredible to witness. An artist who had immense talent and potential from the beginning, but blossomed into a wildly entertaining headlining act – Think genre-bending electronic music with mind-bending visuals.

Thundercat

King of the bass, CHBP veteran, and member of the Star Wars universe, Thundercat will once again grace the stage with GRAMMY-winning musical excellence. A set that will never leave you disappointed.

Justin Harden

A Seattle legend in the making, Justin Harden is one of the next ones up. Introspective alternative rock with a lot of soul. One of the sets I’m most looking forward to.

Swavy

An electronic-funk band that is just about to take off. These guys bring a seriously dope throwback sound full of funk and soul.

Lazā

Lazā is one of the best lyricists the city has to offer. Whether it’s sing-songs or dope bars, she doesn’t miss. I can only hope we get the Travis Thompson cameo during “Mobbin,” in a flashback to 2019 Bumbershoot at the MoPOP Stage.

Make sure to check out all of the artists playing next weekend on the official CHBP Spotify playlist.
